Openfiler is an enterprise-level Storage Management Operating System. It is powered by the Linux 2.6 kernel and Open Source applications such as Apache, Samba, LVM2, ext3, Linux NFS and iSCSI Enterprise Target. Openfiler combines these ubiquitous technologies into a small, easy to manage solution fronted by a powerful web-based management interface. Openfiler allows you to build a Network Attached Storage (NAS) and/or Storage Area Network (SAN) appliance, using industry-standard hardware.

Features:

Openfiler supports a wide range of protocols to support Windows, Linux, Unix and Apple systems including NFS, SMB/CIFS, HTTP/WebDAV, FTP and iSCSI. Openfiler integrates into network directory authentication systems including NIS, LDAP (with support for SMB/CIFS encrypted passwords), Active Directory (in native and mixed modes), Windows NT 4 domain controller and Hesiod. Authentication protocols include Kerberos 5.

Hardware requirements for Openfiler are at least a 500 MHz CPU, 128 MB of RAM, 1.2 GB hard disk space, an optical drive and a FastEthernet network interface.

Openfiler is priced at $495 and includes five support incidents for one year after purchase.
